The EHM project website was launched in September 2016 when the project’s primary focus was on the pioneering historical Gross Domestic Product (GDP) accounts of Malaya for 1900–1939 prepared by Sultan Nazrin Shah, and the publication of Sultan Nazrin Shah’s book ‘Charting the Economy: Early 20th Century Malaya and Contemporary Malaysian Contrasts’ based on these national accounts.

In the years since, the focus of the EHM project has gradually broadened and now includes articles, books, and data that cover the larger geographical area of Malaysia—that is Sabah and Sarawak in addition to the Malay peninsula.

As such, and with the recent publication of Sultan Nazrin Shah’s new book ‘Globalization: Perak’s Rise, Relative Decline, and Regeneration’ from today onwards the EHM project will be known as the Economic History of Malaysia project.
